If remediation is necessary, whether it is a first or second exam, all remediation attempts must be completed within two years of the original course date. 

• There is a limit of two attempts with remediation exam. Please ensure ample practice has been completed and work with a supervising doctor has been done. 
• It is the auxiliary’s responsibility to ensure exams are completed within the two-year time frame, otherwise they will be required to retake the entire Restorative II course over again.

Auxiliaries will have one hour per restoration to complete the remediation. 

• The same kits, materials and instruments will available as during the first exam. 
• Auxiliaries may bring their own kits as well anything that will make you more comfortable in successfully completing the restorations, such as finishing burs, materials, matrix systems or instruments.

After the remediation exam is completed, the auxiliary’s typodont will be turned in to the exam proctor. The typodont will again be sent by mail to three individual graders. Once the typodonts are received back at the MDA office, tallying of the results will begin. Once results are determined, the auxiliary will receive the graded typodont back and be notified of the results. 

Based on the grading results of the FIRST REMEDIATION EXAM, the following will happen:

• PASS on remediated restoration(s): Typodont will be returned to the auxiliary along with a summary of the grading results, Certificate of Completion and an Application for Expanded Functions Permit. The auxiliary is required to apply for and receive a Restorative II permit from the Missouri Dental Board BEFORE the auxiliary is allowed to perform any Restorative II expanded functions delegated by the supervising dentist.
• FAIL on any remediated restoration(s): Typodont will be returned to the auxiliary along with a summary of the grading results. The auxiliary will be required to remediate each restoration(s) failed and pay an exam fee of $125 per restoration. The auxiliary cannot retake the exam on the failed restoration(s) until 90 days has passed (since receiving the results). The auxiliary will come to a dental office in Jefferson City to retake the exam. The MDA will contact the auxiliary to make these arrangements.  

Based on the grading results of the SECOND REMEDIATION EXAM, the following will happen:

• PASS on twice remediated restoration(s): Typodont will be returned to the auxiliary along with a summary of the grading results, Certificate of Completion and an Application for Expanded Functions Permit. The auxiliary is required to apply for and receive a Restorative II permit from the Missouri Dental Board BEFORE the auxiliary is allowed to perform any Restorative II expanded functions delegated by the supervising dentist.
• FAIL on twice remediated restoration(s): Typodont will be returned to the auxiliary along with a summary of the grading results. A failing grade will be marked within the original course date. The auxiliary will not be allowed to remediate again. The auxiliary is required to pay the full fee again and retake the Restorative II coursework including the prework, clinical session and competency exam. This will include retesting on all three restorations included in the exam (regardless of whether the auxiliary passed or failed them in the original coursework). The auxiliary is required to wait one year from the second remediation date before they may register again for another course.
